Bought a Braun BN0035 six years ago for $125. The factory strap is the usual story: 18 mm at the spring bars, about 21 mm once it clears the lugs, and crappy leather that gives up after a few years of light, moderate use.
Replacements from Braun are the same crappy strap at €40 plus postage. A proper custom 18/21 in decent calf starts around $150–200 USD. Hirsch and RIOS in 18 mm are better leather but they stay 18 mm all the way, so the case looks skinny. Notching a 22 mm strap yourself works if you like knives.
Luff’s Casio-oriented 18-to-20 leather is the only off-the-shelf piece that even tries to copy that flare. $30 USD on the site, $56 CAD on the door in Toronto. Quick-release bars in the strap. Ordered from Singapore, package in hand in Toronto 9 short days later.
Fit is exact on the bars. The body is 1 mm slimmer than the OEM 21-ish strap. On a 40 mm case you stop seeing it after a minute. Construction is the reason it wins the price comparison: full-grain face, real lining, two keepers, clean holes, finished buckle end. Not Hirsch. Not a $200 custom. Several classes above the strap Braun sold on a $300 watch.
I wanted a different colour. Pale pebble tan on the black case is on point, not a compromise. Brown is still available when this one is done, which will not be soon if it stays out of the sink.
If you have an 18 mm watch with a flared OEM strap and you refuse to spend more on the band than you paid for the watch, this is the one that exists.
When I received it, my first impression was that it was a bit narrow. In the Instagram videos, it looked wider. And when I put it on my wrist, it was a little short.
But it's also true that the watch isn't very big, and the size is the same as the strap. If you have a very thick wrist, it won't fit you.
The price is fine, I suppose, although I forgot that I had to pay customs and ended up paying more, and for that reason I think I won't buy another one because of the tax.
It's very pretty, it feels like good leather, but if I had to buy another one, I would choose the fabric one (to see what it's like) or the elastic ones I've seen for other more expensive watches.
I really liked the strap. The only thing I noticed is that, with daily use, the material is starting to peel a little. This happens mainly in the friction area where you adjust and tighten the buckle, which is normal with this type of vintage leather. Despite this slight wear from daily use, it looks great on my Casio A158W.
